APTC

APTC (Association du Personnel de la Tour de Contrôle et du Terminal Genève) is the second of the two Geneva based associations and represents about 50 air traffic controllers, working at the Geneva Control Tower, as well as in the Terminal Centre, consisting of Approach Radar and the "Geneva Lower Airspace" units.

The goal of our association is to protect, promote and improve the working and social conditions of our members. We work in close cooperation with our two sister associations (Skycontrol and Aerocontrol) and also with APC/PVB (Association du Personnel de Confédération) which represent air traffic controllers working at military airports and at various regional aerodromes.

APTC closely monitors all operational changes (procedures, airspace, rostering, capacity, etc…), which affect our members. Geneva is situated within proximity of the Alps and their feeder airports such as Chambéry and Annecy (Geneva Terminal Centre is also responsible for the sequencing and initial approach to these airports). The mountainous terrain surrounding Geneva and these neighbouring airports, in conjunction with the strict noise abatement procedures we have to follow, make our work really challenging with our “single” runway operation. Geneva Airport air traffic rises year after year, whilst we are faced with constant staff shortages at the workplace. This increase in traffic is caused by the explosion of the “low cost” phenomena, the augmentation of business jet traffic and the “international” status of the city of Geneva (UN and other International Organisations). When this is combined with large scale organised events such as EURO2008, EBACE (European Business Aviation Conference), TELECOM and the famous Car Show, not forgetting the Ski season, our work becomes varied and no day is the same!

Members of the executive board of APTC also represent SwissATCA within IFATCA, the International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers.
APTC is a member of the ATIR board (Air Traffic Incident Reporting), a committee dedicated to dealing with all "air traffic control" incidents in the aim to improve long term air safety.
